The project “Strengthening Sustainable Socio-productive Experiences on the Upper Juruá, Acre (fish farming associated with agroforestry systems)”, financed by the Fundação Banco do Brasil, is consolidating socio-cultural development with a focus on the concept of “standing forest” in the Upper Juruá region on the Brazil-Peru border.
As well as supporting sustainable socio-productive practices among indigenous and non-indigenous communities, the project encourages local cultures, intercultural dialogue and the management of land and agrobiodiversity. Fish breeding as part of agroforestry systems is the main focus of all the work.
The training sessions held in the framework of this project help meet the demand of the communities for technical assistance, which is hard to come by in the region. The project enables the technical qualification and methodological training of participating groups, contributing to training field workers and reducing dependence on external support, encouraging the local population to take the work forward by themselves.
