The Pur Projet (http://purprojet.com) is a network of associated groups that help businesses incorporate climate issues into their operational policies and their environmental and social responsibility policies. The Pur Projet carries out socio-environmental projects to restore, revitalize and protect the environment in partnership with marginalized communities and small producer cooperatives. In 2013, having seen our reforestation activities, the Pur Projet offered us support to expand our work. This was how we have come to be part of the Project.
The “Peoples of the Forest” Project of the Pur Projet and the Associação Apiwtxa seeks to restore areas of degraded forest by planting fruit trees, encouraging the self-sufficiency of communities living in the forest, and promoting the agroforestry knowledge of indigenous peoples.
In conjunction with our community and with the Association of Young Forest Warriors (Associação dos Jovens Guerreiros da Floresta, created with our support), the Pur Projet and the Associação Apiwtxa intend to plant ninety thousand native fruit and hardwood trees of a wide range of species. Planting has been ongoing since 2014 and is taking place in our indigenous land on the Rio Amônia, as well as in the Centro Yorenka Ãtame and the Raio do Sol (“Sunbeam”) project in Marechal Thaumaturgo. This project belongs to the Associação Jovens Guerreiros da Floresta and is located in the Incra settlement next to the urban area of Marechal Thaumaturgo.
The priority of this project is to accompany the restoration of degraded areas to protect both their biodiversity and our Ashaninka culture, heavily dependent on the forest for its survival. It is an example of an environmental restoration project to strengthen our culture and our community through forest conservation.
Soon, this activity with the Pur Projet will result in the production of native fruit pulps, something already underway with the construction of processing facilities at the Centro Yorenka Ãtame in Marechal Thaumaturgo. Both projects will help strengthen the economic foundations of the indigenous and non-indigenous communities in the municipality of Marechal Thaumaturgo.
